Many of us have fond and cherished childhood memories, and many of them are often linked to our grandparents and their homes. After all, at grandma and grandpa’s (almost) anything goes. You can eat unhealthy snacks, watch TV until late, build forts with sheets, and still enjoy the special coziness that only grandparents provide.
But as we grow older, these gatherings become rarer; adult life brings a series of changes and responsibilities that make such meetings impossible and often cause us to forget what life was like when we were children.
Perhaps that’s why a new trend on TikTok has moved so many internet users; videos show unsuspecting grandparents being surprised by their grandchildren, who arrive excited and ready for a good pajama party. Initially confused, the grandmas and grandpas can’t hide their emotions about the improvised ‘party’.
In one of the videos already with over 5.6 million views, we see Pam sitting on the couch, enjoying a quiet evening when suddenly her granddaughter Brandi and the other grandchildren arrive with pillows, sleeping bags, and fun games. “Surprised my grandma with a pajama party,” reads the caption of the clip shared by Brandi.
To TODAY.com, the granddaughter shared that it was common for her and her cousins to spend nights at their grandparents’ house, and since the death of their grandfather, Pam had been alone. Brandi shared about the pajama party that consisted of bingo and old photos, followed by a special breakfast. “I will never forget this,” she said.
Many other videos of meetings like this are circulating on social media, showing how important it is to make time for the people we love and who once took such good care of us. Time and sometimes distance can indeed be a challenge, but technology can be a great ally. After all, it’s always possible to send a message, arrange a video call, or give a call to see how things are going.
